„Climate-intelligent"

What does it mean?
'Climate-intelligent' is a non-specific term that makes no concrete statements about the climate footprint of a product or company. Under the EmpCo Directive and UWG § 5b, the lack of substantiation of an environmental claim constitutes withheld information and is therefore misleading. Anyone using 'climate-intelligent' must explain what specific measures they have taken to reduce climate impacts and substantiate these with recognised standards (e.g. ISO 14064-1, SBTi, LCA). Under Section 5 UWG and the EmpCo Directive (EU 2024/825), consumers expect specific distances for regional claims. This applies analogously to 'climate-intelligent' claims as well.
