„Paris-compliant"

What does it mean?
The claim "Paris-compliant" or "1.5-degree-compliant" is misleading without independent validation by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and constitutes a lack of substantiation pursuant to § 5b UWG. The EmpCo Directive (EU 2024/825) strengthens the requirements for environmental claims and requires recognised evidence. Under Section 5 UWG and the EmpCo Directive (EU 2024/825), consumers expect concrete, verifiable production for regional claims. The same applies by analogy to "Paris-compliant": validation by the SBTi demonstrates that the company's climate targets are scientifically sound and compatible with the 1.5-degree target of the Paris Climate Agreement. A blanket claim without such evidence is inadmissible.
