„Plastic-reduced"

What does it mean?
The claim 'plastic-reduced' is only permissible from 27 September 2026 if it is substantiated by concrete figures. The EmpCo Directive tightens the requirements for environmental claims and requires clear substantiation pursuant to § 5 UWG. A mere reference to a reduction is misleading, as consumers cannot comprehend what the reduction is based on. A clear reference value must be provided, for example in comparison to a predecessor product or an industry standard. A comprehensive life cycle assessment in accordance with ISO 14040/14044 can serve as evidence and increase the credibility of the claim.
