„Repairability Score (Indice de Réparabilité)"
Art. L541-9-2 Code de l'environnement (France), (EU) 2024/1799 (R2R Directive)
What does it mean?
The "Repairability Score" (French: Indice de Réparabilité) is an index that evaluates the repairability of a product. Originally introduced in France (Art. L541-9-2 Code de l'environnement), it will become mandatory EU-wide from 2027 for certain product groups under the "Right to Repair" Directive (EU) 2024/1799. The Directive aims to extend the lifespan of products and reduce electronic waste. As the score represents essential information about environmental compatibility, the absence or misleading disclosure of the repairability score falls under UWG § 5b as withheld information. A substantiated disclosure of the score, based on the criteria of the EU Directive, is therefore essential to avoid warnings.
Typical phrasings
- "Repairability Score: 8.2/10 (Indice de Réparabilité)" – displayed transparently on product packaging and in the online shop.
- "The repairability score is calculated according to the criteria of the EU R2R Directive and is publicly accessible."
- "High repairability score thanks to comprehensive documentation and readily available spare parts."
