What does it mean?
Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is a sustainable aircraft fuel, the use of which will, however, fall under the stricter rules of the EmpCo Directive and the UWG from 27 September 2026. A generic claim such as "CO₂-reduced flight through SAF" is misleading under UWG § 5 without specific information on the SAF blend and certification. The ReFuelEU Aviation Regulation (EU) 2023/605 prescribes binding SAF quotas that must be taken into account in communication. To ensure legally compliant advertising, it is essential to state the SAF proportion in the fuel mix (as a percentage) and to provide evidence of recognised certification (e.g. RSB or ISCC).
