What does it mean?
The German Supply Chain Due Diligence Act (LkSG) requires companies with 1,000 or more employees to analyse and mitigate risks in their own and upstream supply chains with regard to human rights and environmental standards. From 27 September 2026, the EU Directive 2024/825 (EmpCo) tightens the requirements for substantiating claims regarding the supply chain pursuant to § 5b UWG. General statements such as "fairly produced" are misleading without evidence of an LkSG-compliant risk analysis and publication of the corresponding report. Companies must transparently demonstrate what measures they are taking to prevent human rights violations and environmental damage.
